Why choose Starting Point for your child’s dental care?
We are specialists
Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. Our doctors have three years specialty training following dental school. This means that we have the training and the skill to treat the unique oral and dental needs of infants, kids, and teens. We offer an environment that is soothing and comfortable to both kids and teens. We specialize in helping kids cooperate with their dental visits when they are unsure or afraid.
Our team is out of this world and we make it our mission to help kids be comfortable at the dentist. The experiences they have as children will shape their dental habits as adults.
When to see a pediatric dentist
In order to prevent dental problems, your child should see a pediatric dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than their first birthday. This is recommended so the doctor can evaluate the child and talk to parents about habits to start and habits to avoid to give baby the best chance at preventing cavities.
Introducing your child to the dentist and the dental office early will make them more comfortable with visits by the time they are toddlers and will also make them more comfortable with a brushing routine at home. Kids that see the dentist for the first time later in life a prone to have more anxiety than the ones who start early.
What to expect at first appointment
We always customize our appointments to the individual patients needs. A routine appointment would include any images or x-rays that are appropriate, a cleaning or prophy from one of our specially trained team members, an exam by our doctor, and a time for doctor and parents to discuss any findings or recommendations.
Most insurance covers the full fee of routine check-ups. Your individual plan may vary, but we will let you know that ahead of time. If you don’t have insurance please call our office, we would love to work with you to help your child get the care they need.
Pro tips for a successful visit
Making the appointment easy and stress free can start at home! Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before their visit. Wake up and show excitement for going to the dentist. The atmosphere here is fun and relaxing and our team is trained to make kids comfortable. Arrive a little early this will give your child some time to read a book or play with a toy and warm up to the environment. If a parent is stressed about time the child will pick up on it and will also be more stressed. If you child has a favorite small toy or blanket, please feel free to bring it along for support.
Don’t worry if there are a few tears, this is normal and once they complete the appointment they will be rewarded with a toy and lots of praise from our team. This will mean a great dental visit for you both!
