Dental Cleanings Image - Starting Point

When should my child first see a Pediatric Dentist?

The American Association of Pediatric Dentists recommend that every child have their first dental check up by their first birthday. This visit is an important part of healthy oral hygiene habits that last a lifetime. Visiting a pediatric dentist early will also make your child more comfortable with dental cleanings as they grow older. Our Kansas City office is the perfect starting point for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

How often should my child see a Pediatric Dentist?

>We would like to see you and your child every six months. This is a widely accepted time frame that is recommended by the American Association of Pediatric Dentists and by most insurance companies for reimbursement. Kids move and grow fast! A lot can happen in 6 months with their dental development. We also like to see them every six months to monitor healthy brushing and eating habits. Keeping this 6 month routine will help identify risky behaviors and increase the health of their smiles.

What can I expect at a dental cleaning?

A cleaning is an easy and typically enjoyable part of a dental visit. Each visit is a little different depending on your child’s age, but generally speaking the cleaning is after a comprehensive exam to evaluate the health of all of the teeth and gum tissue. We will then polish all of the teeth with a fun flavor of kids paste, floss between all emerged teeth, and then paint on a protective clear fluoride. If you have any questions or concerns about how we perform cleanings at our pediatric dental office please do not hesitate to call us.
