When should my child first see a Pediatric Dentist?
The American Association of Pediatric Dentists recommend that every child have their first dental check-up by their first birthday. This visit is an important part of healthy oral hygiene habits that last a lifetime. Visiting a pediatric dentist early will also make your child more comfortable with dental cleanings as they grow older. Our offices are the perfect starting point for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
How often should my child see a Pediatric Dentist?
We would like to see you and your child every six months. This is a widely accepted time frame that is recommended by the American Association of Pediatric Dentists and by most insurance companies for reimbursement. Kids move and grow fast! A lot can happen in 6 months with their dental development. We also like to see them every six months to monitor healthy brushing and eating habits. Keeping this 6 month routine will help identify risky behaviors and increase the health of their smiles.
What can I expect at a dental cleaning?
A cleaning is an easy and typically enjoyable part of a dental visit. Each visit is a little different depending on your child’s age, but generally speaking the cleaning is after a comprehensive exam to evaluate the health of all of the teeth and gum tissue. We will then polish all of the teeth with a fun flavor of kids paste, floss between all emerged teeth, and then paint on a protective clear fluoride. If you have any questions or concerns about how we perform cleanings at our pediatric dental office please do not hesitate to call us.
